Stunning Light Kit, But...

Let me start by saying that this is one of the most stunningly beautiful light kits that I have ever installed (following closely on the Disney Castle). All that being said, it did have its drawbacks during installation. The Enterprise model that was used for the instruction pictures was NOT the Enterprise model that I had constructed. I can only assume that it was a pre-production model since some of the disassembly pictures did not match my build and were hard to follow. I did manage to get the general idea of the installation, although my installation did not exactly match the instructions. In the end it all worked out beautifully and even my wife was impressed with the lighted Enterprise (which is a rarity).

Excellent light kit - but still required some modifications

I managed to catch this light kit while it was in-stock, ordering direct from Lightailing, and it arrived to me in Canada about a week later. The instructions were generally OK, but sometimes the photos they use tend to be bit dark. That said, the Enterprise looks magnificent fully lit up, in particular the warp nacelles – they used a fantastic light strip that beats every other lighting solution for this Lego set out there – buy this set for this reason alone! As great as this light kit looks, I do have some thoughts about it. The good: excellent nacelles, good placement of various lights around the model, new Briksmax 2.0 cable management is excellent. The not-so-good: the instructions were clear, but the placement of wires was poorly – or perhaps hastily – done by the designers… lots of exposed wires in the official instructions; I easily modified the path of the wires on the saucer, on the nacelles and engineering hull to hide the wiring almost completely. Also, brick changes required for the underside of the nacelles were clunky… this was improved upon using parts removed elsewhere from the model, restoring its curved look. And finally – the so-so: would have loved to have three extra lights to stick in the impulse engines… this is the only miss on the light set, which other light sets include, but was omitted here. Overall… with a little Lego modding, this is possibly the best use of lighting on any set I’ve lit up so far (roughly 30 and counting), and this is the BEST looking light set I’ve seen for this model.
