5. LEGO Bat & Pumpkin (40090)
If you're looking for a great Halloween gift or want a simple but effective display piece for Halloween, then this is a great place to start. With just 156 pieces, it's not a complicated build, but it fits the Halloween theme well and it's a great example of what LEGO can do when they work on seasonal builds.
The reason it makes our top 5 is mostly because of the adorable bat. Let's be honest, Halloween isn't all about the scares, and sometimes a smiling bat next to a tiny pumpkin is really all you need. Place this on your mantle piece or on the dining table as a Halloween centerpiece - however you do it, it's going to bring some of that fun Halloween spirit LEGO has become known for over the years.
4. LEGO Hidden Side Newbury Haunted High School (70425)
LEGO released the Hidden Side sets back in 2019, but they have since retired them. Perhaps it wasn't as popular as they expected? Which we don't understand considering how outstanding these sets are. Still, all the Hidden Side range is readily available elsewhere online. The Newbury Haunted High School set is one of the biggest in the range, with 1474 parts, and yes, the set looks absolutely stunning when built (one of the rare LEGO sets that are perfect for displaying and playing), but there's also the amazing AR experience too.
LEGO Hidden Side works through the app of the same name (still downloadable and usable at the time of writing this, despite the Hidden Side sets being retired). The app allows you to interact using a smartphone with the scene in front of you, creating an immersive AR experience in which your haunted scene comes alive with ghosts and spirits of the night. This is really exciting for kids, but even as an adult you have to admit that LEGO's progress from basic bricks to sets incorporating AR technology is pretty astounding!
This isn't our favorite of the Hidden Side range, but it's definitely up there, and we can see this working perfectly as the major attraction at a Halloween party for guests to see! We even have a lighting kit specifically designed for this model to make it really standout, so why not take a look to see how this awesome set can be improved further?
3. LEGO Monster Fighters Vampire Castle (9468)
Nothing says Halloween like vampires, right? What about a vampire's castle? What about a vampire's castle with a vampire, vampire bride, vampire minions, and some vampire catchers to boot? Yeah, now we're getting somewhere! LEGO has discontinued this LEGO Monster Fighters Vampire Castle set, but it's such a staple that it's still available in multiple places online. If you want to create massive vampire themed Halloween battles, then this is the best option available!
The best Halloween LEGO sets are those that mix the Halloween theme with expert opportunities for storytelling, and this vampire castle doesn't miss a beat! There are so many action features in the castle itself, so you can really interact with this set in interesting and unique ways. It works brilliantly as a display piece too, with its 900+ pieces creating a seriously impressive castle. Spooky? Check. Action-packed? You bet. One of the best LEGO sets for Halloween 2021? Absolutely!
2. LEGO Hidden Side Graveyard Mystery (70420)
Another offering from Hidden Side now, and our personal favorite of the entire series, this Graveyard Mystery set is everything that Halloween should be about. Complete with hidden surprises (both as another interactive AR experience and in the build itself - a hint, don't look in the coffin!) this really has the potential to be one of the best Halloween LEGO sets available. It's pipped to the top spot by something that goes with Halloween like peanut butter goes with jelly, but it was a close call!
This is another one with a lighting kit all ready to go on our website, and for us it makes the world of difference. Even if you decide to go without the lighting kit here, it still looks great, has a genuine Halloween feel to it, and is a lot of fun to play with.
1. LEGO Scooby-Doo Mystery Mansion (75904)
Our top spot had to be occupied by Scooby-Doo, right? There was never any real contest there! Scooby-Doo is a franchise that screams Halloween, so when they teamed up with LEGO, it was a match made in heaven. Possibly the best thing to come out of that beautiful relationship was the Scooby-Doo Mystery Mansion set!
We'll talk about the elephant in the room now, because the eagle eyed amongst you will notice right away if you take a look - Fred isn't in this set. BUT, the rest of the gang are, and frankly Fred's a little show-y - let someone else come up with a plan for a change, Fred! Well, now they can in this amazing set perfect for story-telling and display.
This set really captures the essence of Scooby-Doo, and when you play with it, it very much feels like you've fallen headfirst into your TV screen and straight into an episode of the show. This is our favorite set because not only is it one of the best Halloween LEGO sets, but it's also one of our favorites of all time.
Going the extra mile
Making this list was difficult, and limiting ourselves to 5 was even harder because there are so many great options out there. If you want some further inspiration for Halloween gifts or Halloween LEGO display pieces to be used as decorations, look at the lighting kits we have available on our store. Head to the 'Hidden Side' collection to see all the outstanding sets in the range that we stock lighting kits for.
We really think lighting kits make a big difference to any set, but especially so at Halloween! We're certain you won't be able to stop yourself from picking up a few new LEGO Halloween sets online and the lighting kits to match them from our store once you've had a look around!
